Our last full day in Mexico was magical. We spent Our last full day in Mexico was magical. We spent the morning at the Military Macaw Sanctuary outside of Puerto Vallarta, then explored the Vallarta Botanical Garden. During lunch there, the staff surprised us by having one of the servers share his folk dancing skills with us. And Mini, who teaches dance back in NC, joined in!

We had a whale of a day! We saw 25 humpback whales We had a whale of a day! We saw 25 humpback whales and witnessed many of their key behaviors —fin waving, tail slapping, diving, spy-hopping and breaching. We also saw a cow and calf. It was an amazing day on our Mexico’s Magical Migrations Institute!

Our Mexico Institute group had a lovely last morni Our Mexico Institute group had a lovely last morning at Agua Blanca with a walk to a waterfall and a lesson in tortilla making. Now, we’re on our way to the airport to fly to Puerto Vallarta!

The last full day of our Blue Ridge Institute at J The last full day of our Blue Ridge Institute at Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest with old growth tulip poplars! We are grateful for a wonderful experience in our NC mountains and the fantastic company of outstanding educators!

Yesterday, our Blue Ridge Institute group had a ot Yesterday, our Blue Ridge Institute group had a other great day that started with a beautiful sunrise, was filled with learning about Cherokee culture past and present, and ended with our arrival at the lovely Sky Ridge Yurts. Everyone is glad to sleep in a bed and not a damp tent!
What an amazing day! We watched the sun rise over What an amazing day! We watched the sun rise over the mountains, collected data on pollinators in our journals, met Rocky the hellbender, and got to see multiple wild hellbenders in the Davidson River. Hellbenders are large salamanders up to 2 feet or more long that only live in cold, clear flowing water. We were so fortunate to be able to learn from @ncwildlife biologists Lori Williams and @ben_the_biologist
Yesterday, we visited The North Carolina Arboretum Yesterday, we visited The North Carolina Arboretum where we graced the parking lot with our wet camping gear, learned from an amazing educator (Shannon Bodeau) about Project EXPLORE, met Ranger Jonathan Bennett who manages the volunteer program for the Blue Ridge Parkway, and had a wonderful writing workshop with Jennifer McGaha from UNC-A. We got our tents set up just before some late afternoon rain, and then had some time to catch up on our journals and the blog and carve stamps!
